Lions foundation of canada

The Lions Foundation of Canada
operates three Dog Guides of Canada programmes.
Canine Vision Canada trains dog
guide teams for clients who are visually impaired, allowing them to travel more
widely and independently with greater confidence.
Hearing Ear Dogs of Canada help
individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, alerting them to important everyday
sounds.
Special Skills Dogs of Canada assist
people with physical or medical disabilities, like seizures, multiple sclerosis,
muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy, to achieve greater independence and
mobility.

programmes, see

A-12 DOMINATES 2007 CANINE
CHALLENGE
Ten teams rose to the 2007 Canine Challenge at the Lions Foundation of
Canada Sir James Dunn Foundation Dog Guide Training Facility in Oakville,
Ontario, on Saturday January 13th. Five of those teams were sponsored Lions
Clubs in District A-12. Thank you and congratulations to Alliston Lions Club,
Bracebridge Leos Club, Gravenhurst Leos Club, Springwater Vespra Lions Club and
Tottenham & District Lions Club. All teams enjoyed their interactive learning
experience, comparing blindfold walks with cane and then with dog guide, or
test driving a Special Skills Dog while wheelchair bound. This event is easily
the best method of learning the benefits of the dog guides.
The winner of the Challenge? After coming a very close second last year,
District A-12’s Tottenham & District Lions Club walked away with it.
Congratulations to Lions Andy Patterson, Betty Trahan, Jack Hoke and Mary
Brown.

thank you district a-12
On behalf of the Lions Foundation of Canada/Dog Guides of Canada and their
many clients, I wish to thank all clubs and individuals who have supported or
donated to the dog guides. You have made a difference.
I especially wish to recognize the support given in this Lions year by
District A-12.
First,
I would like to recognize the efforts of these clubs for hosting a Purina Walk
for Dog Guides in District A-12 in 2005/2006. Over $37,000 was raised by:
Alliston Lions Club
Ontario Council of the Blind (Barrie)
Elmvale Lions Club
Gilford & District Lions Club
Gravenhurst and Bracebridge Lions Club (Gravenhurst)
Huntsville Lioness Club
Midland Lions Club
Stephenson District Lions Club
Sundridge Lioness Club
Tottenham & District Lions Club
The Walk for Dog Guides is a fun, no-cost
event that promotes your club as well the dog guides, a project that aids the
blind, the deaf, and people with other physical challenges, whether they are
caused by injury or illness, diabetes, kidney problems, multiple sclerosis,
muscular distrophy and many other challenges. If your club would like to host a
walk in your area, contact your District Chair,
Lion Les Stevens, or the manager of the
Purina Walk for Dogguides at the Lions Foundation of Canada, Lion Steven Cronk
scronk@dogguides.com
Secondly, I wish to thank everyone in District A-12 for their donations in
whatever form. There are many ways, including:
Sponsorship (there is a District fund for
sponsoring a dog guide) Judge Brian Stevenson Fellowship
LFC Fellowship
LFC Life membership

Gift Shop Purchases

Lions, Orillia Lions, Oro & District Lions, Pointe Au Baril Lions, Springwater
Vespra Lions, Stephenson District Lions, Tottenham & District Lions and Wasaga
Beach Lioness for your donations. The total is just over $11,800 which is
